Last week on Doctor Odyssey, Crew Week, Avery revealed that she isn’t and never was pregnant, and her false positive was due to having a corpus luteum cyst on her right ovary. This week is Crew Week, and it’s packed with even more twists, including the reveal of Max’s twin brother…
The episode titled “Crew Week,” started with Avery having a drink and Max joining her. He admits that he’s used to having all the answers, but he’s struggling to find some about their relationship. He says the bottom line is that he really likes Avery, and she admits she likes him too. Max also lets her know that he’s going to go back home during the crew’s break.
Tristan is in bed with Vivian, who viewers haven’t seen in ages. They’re seeing each other again, and Vivian brings the two of them lots of delicious food for the energy they’ll need.
Danger ensues for Rosie when a heavy piece of ship machinery falls right on her foot. When Avery checks her symptoms, she discovers that it may be compartment syndrome. However, when she suggests doing surgery, Rosie refuses. Tristan suggests they wait for a hospital, which Rosie agrees, leaving Avery annoyed. Avery tells Tristan that it is the job of medical professionals to act in the best interest of the patient, give them all the information, and persuade them into doing what will help them the most.
Back in the infirmary Avery recalls a story of when Rosie first got hired on the Odyssey and asks her to please consider undergoing the surgery for the whole crew because they can’t lose her. Rosie finally agrees. While in the middle of the surgery, Tristan admits that Avery was right and that had they waited any longer, Rosie could’ve lost her foot.
Max arrives at his family’s home, where he is greeted by his twin brother Mer, a fact that still shocks us. Max’s nieces run into his arms and Mer’s wife Danielle welcomes him back home. They all have dinner together. Afterwards, he and Mer have a conversation about the significant changes in their lives. Mer attributes Max’s changes to his illness, which motivated him to keep running. It was almost as if the idea of Max creating a stable home would destroy him.
Max also tells Mer about this position at the Stubbing-Lang hospital that he may go for. Max visits the hospital to talk with the President, Rodney Prescott. Although Max isn’t on the Odyssey, his doctor instincts are as strong as ever. He jumps into action when he sees a teenage boy, Topher, coughing blood into his mask and fingers turning blue. Max calls for him to get a chest X-Ray, with Rodney agreeing.
Rodney allows Max to perform an emergency surgery under the Good Samaritan law. The surgery is a success and Topher pulls through. Rodney tells Max that he would be proud to have him at the hospital and allow him to make any changes he’d like, as they need good doctors and leaders.

No one told us Monroe and Avery had a thing back in the day. In an attempt to encourage Avery to go to medical school, Monroe tells her that had he known she was going to be a doctor, he would have married her. As he goes to leave, Avery notices something wrong and asks to check his leg.
While giving him an X-ray, Avery sees that he has a parasitic infection, Trichinella Spiralis. She asks him if he consumed any undercooked pork, and he says he had some pastor tacos in Mexico with Tristan.
While Max tries to sleep, he thinks about his life and everything that has happened during his time on the Odyssey. He makes the decision to go home and hugs his brother. Mer, Danielle, and the girls all wave goodbye to him.
Max comes aboard the Odyssey once again. As he returns, Tristan and Avery are arguing over whether Tristan might also have Trichinella Spiralis. Tristan says they should wait for Max to get back.
Max finds Tristan, Avery, and Monroe and asks if Avery is sure it’s not another condition and suggests another medicine. Avery assertively tells him that his suggestion won’t work, and he backs off and asks her what she would recommend. While Avery and Max talk, Monroe starts seizing. Max tells Avery that she’s still in charge and that it’s her turn to give the orders.
The triangle between Avery, Max, and Tristan is still pointy as both Tristan and Max confess their feelings. Tristan tells Avery his feelings are real and serious, and Max tells her that she is the one true thing that has made him want to stay and not run. Welp, back to square one!
Doctor Odyssey will return in two weeks when two book tour groups with opposing life views aboard the ship. There will be food fights and medical emergencies ahead. Episode 16 will air May 1, 2025, on ABC. It will also stream on Hulu the next day.
