"It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia" Season 17 Returns to FXX on July 9 with Epic "Abbott Elementary" Crossover Finale

They're baaacccckkkk! It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is set for its 17th season on July 9, 2025, on FXX. However, this time, the gang’s chaotic antics aren’t just confined to Paddy’s Pub. In a television event no one saw coming but everyone will be talking about (again), the season premiere doubles as the second and final crossover episode with ABC’s hit comedy Abbott Elementary. This is so dope. Fans wanted more and that was the plan the whole time. Quinta Brunson is a legit genius.

The crossover event began earlier this year with the Abbott Elementary episode titled “Volunteers”, which aired on January 8, 2025. In this episode, the gang from It’s Always Sunny, Mac, Charlie, Dee, Dennis, and Frank, are court-ordered to serve community service at Abbott Elementary, where their misguided attempts at helping cause more harm than good.

From Mac’s overly aggressive motivational speeches to Charlie becoming way too involved in the janitorial staff’s routine, the episode delivered hilarious fish-out-of-water moments while staying true to both shows’ tones. One of the more popular storylines from the first crossover event was Barbara and Melissa helping one of the crew to read. Not only was it funny but completely heartfelt.

On July 9, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will return to FXX with the second part of the crossover, told entirely from the gang’s perspective. This type of storytelling isn't new of course. Fans have seen this before in classics like Rashomon, where viewers see the same events through a different lens but in true Sunny fashion, expect the complete unexpected.
